Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before Booking

Let’s face it, it’s not every day that you book a photographer, let alone a wedding photographer.

There will be a time approaching your wedding day when you think of something that could go wrong with the photography, and you don’t know if your photographer has the solution.

But imagine booking your photographer knowing they have all the bases covered. Imagine the stress that takes away from you through not only the lead up to your wedding day but on the day and also afterwards.

Here are 5 things I would recommend you ask wedding photographers before booking them.

1.

Does the photographer have a back-up camera?

They should always say yes! If they say no, DO NOT BOOK THEM! The camera is a piece of equipment that is not immune to failing. If they do not have a back-up camera, who’s taking the photos?

2.

Do their cameras have dual memory card slots?

This is so important that they do, even on the back-up camera. What this means is that when a photo is taken, the camera will save the photo to two memory cards. Why is this important, I hear you say. Well just like cameras, memory cards also fail from time to time. So by saving to two memory cards, if one fails, you still have all of the photos.

We all know the importance of insurance but what you should pay particular interest to is the public liability insurance. This protects both the photographer and all of the wedding guests should an accident happen caused by the photography equipment. Also, a lot of wedding venues require the photographer to have this in place.

3.

Do they have insurance?

4.

Do they have anyone who could step in last minute should they become unwell?

I think this one is self explanatory as we all know life throws unexpected curveballs at us and wedding photographers are not exempt I’m afraid.

The contract just like insurance is there to protect you both, not just the photographer. It should hold a lot of information and also detail what you can expect. This should reflect a number of things that you have discussed relating to the package you have gone with.

5.

Do they have a contract?

So, knowing that you like a photographer’s style and they are within budget is one thing, but knowing what to ask is another.

I understand the importance of making sure the couples who book with me, know they are in safe hands. I have seen so many couples being let down by their photographers recently, which is heart breaking, this is why I have written this post.

If I can reach enough couples looking for a photographer and arm them with some good questions, they may not have thought to ask and it saves them from booking someone who doesn’t have their backs, then I’ll be happy.

With that being said I hope that you all have found this post helpful and if you would like a photographer who ticks all of these boxes, well…
